The adage that location is key certainly applies to Freeport, Maine and the James Place Inn Bed and Breakfast.
Freeport is particularly well-suited to exploring the Maine coast and enjoying day trips. For those that are not big shoppers, which is what Freeport is often known for, fear not! There are plenty of other things to keep you busy while visiting the area. For fun adventure, check out LL Bean walk-on Discovery School experiences. Each course, kayaking, archery, fly-fish casting, or clay shooting, takes about two hours, so you are not committing your entire day. (Several guests have had such an amazing time, they have hurried right back to sign up for another experience)! Perhaps you are already an experienced kayaker. No worries. There are a number of places nearby to rent kayaks and venture out on your own.
There are plenty of offerings for hikers, bicyclers, runners…you name it and there is something nearby to meet your needs. More into museums, lighthouses, or perhaps antiquing? We have that too! The Maine Maritime Museum is just 20 minutes away and offers a great afternoon checking out the early shipping building history of our area. It is close to Bath Iron Works where many naval ships are built – really something to see.
For those wanting entertainment on, or near, the water, whale watching season will soon be here. Cruises are also available for viewing the Puffins and other water birds. These are unique and wonderful experiences to remember Maine by.
You are likely starting to get the picture; there is something here for everyone to experience and enjoy and make your Maine vacation truly memorable. All of these things can be done with James Place Inn Bed and Breakfast as your home base. We can provide you with ideas, maps, itineraries, just about anything you might need. It is our pleasure to have you here and help make your stay special.
