Northern Lights in Freeport!

Northern Lights in Freeport!  What a beautiful sight to see with the town all lit up and ready for the holidays.  While L.L. Bean has sponsored the holiday lights for the past few years, they have really “amped it up” for this year’s Northern Lights show.

Beginning November 18, 2016, everything was lit up once again on the L.L. Bean campus in Freeport for the annual Northern Lights holiday celebration that last through New Year’s Eve and culminates with a fireworks show to ring in the New Year. This year, the show includes much more than a dancing, music-playing Christmas tree and a lot of lights.  This year’s Northern Lights celebration includes a “Discovery Forest” of more than 500 lit trees.  It is truly stunning, and the smell of balsam is an added bonus!

Additionally, the campus display features a new Night Sky Dome at Discovery Park, open daily from 9:00 am-9:00 pm.  It is an aurora borealis experience with images projected on the ceiling of a geodesic dome.  The dome, in the center of Discovery Park, is 36 feet in diameter and 16 feet high.  The dome is more of a walk-through however, it can hold a few dozen people at one time.  The Night Sky Dome is the central focal point of the display in Discovery Park.

Also new at this year’s festival is a Reindeer Barn and a Model Train Village, located in the Flagship Store and created by the Boothbay Railway Village.  The Reindeer Barn features real Maine reindeer and is open Saturdays and Sundays, December 3-23, from 11 am-5 pm.  The reindeer are on display during these times, staying overnight in the barn.  What visit to the reindeer would be complete without also visiting Santa?  Santa is available to hear your wish list at the same time as the reindeer visitation.

The town of Freeport looks truly amazing and is a sight not to be missed.  New snowflake decorations adorn the town’s utility poles, adding to the festive nature.  Make Freeport your holiday shopping destination and take in the New England charm of the holiday season.
