Things To Do in Freeport, Maine

Here at James Place Inn Bed and Breakfast in Freeport, we spend a lot of time with our guests; helping them plan their day, talking about what they enjoy, talking food and restaurants – whatever people might need.  A favorite activity enjoyed by many, including us, is the cruise aboard the Atlantic Seal out to Eagle Island.  Visit the fascinating museum home of Admiral Peary on Eagle Island, the first man to reach the North Pole. Bring your hiking shoes as you explore the woodsy island trails, beachcomb the shoreline and watch for seals at Casco Bay’s seal resting areas.

Captain Ring, owner of Atlantic Seal and a Maine native, knows all the history of the island and will narrate all the sights you will see to and from Eagle Island.  Also, this excursion leaves from the docks in South Freeport, less than ten minutes from the inn.

Either before or after your cruise, make time to eat at the Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster, located where Captain Tom Ring docks at South Freeport.  This is the quintessential Maine lobster shack and the lobster is fresh daily.  Enjoy a full lobster dinner or a lobster roll, maybe fried clams.  Be sure to save room for the blueberry pie for dessert!Blueberry Pie: Revisited | Do Better
