Freeport starts at the front door
Seven distinctive rooms in an 1891 house on a quiet side street - steps away from L.L.Bean, Freeport Village and Main Street.
A bed and breakfast, with more room to make the stay your own
The James Place Inn gives you the parts of a bed and breakfast stay that matter most: a distinctive room with a private bath, breakfast each morning, and people nearby when you need them. The rest is refreshingly simple. Arrive with clear instructions, walk into town, and use the inn as your base for whatever brought you to Maine.
We are tucked onto Holbrook Street, close enough to leave the car behind and quiet enough to feel removed from the center of town. Walk to the L.L.Bean campus, dinner, coffee, shops, and the Amtrak Downeaster station. Drive a few minutes and Freeport opens into Casco Bay, working waterfronts, preserved forests, coastal farms, and miles of trails. Portland and Brunswick are easy day trips, and the James Place Inn lets you come back to a smaller town at the end of the day.
Our Rooms
A new chapter in an old house
James Place Inn is now cared for by Sean and Charlie, who live on site and are updating the experience thoughtfully over time.
During 2026, the inn remains the bed and breakfast guests have come to love: seven familiar rooms and breakfast every morning. The first changes are about ease - clearer information, self-check in, and more freedom to use Freeport on your own schedule.
We are here when you need us and happy to give you space when you do not.
